It is our hope that you are having a fantastic school year! We would like to introduce the new Pathways Academy program hosted through the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, AR. The Pathways Academy program is designed to peek the interests of k-12 students and their advocates across the state of Arkansas. If you have a strong interest in STEM and Health Sciences, this program is for you! Pathways Academy Career Opportunities
The UAMS Pathways Academy is an innovative, comprehensive educational and and community engagement program focused on preparing low-income, K-12 students for educational and career opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics and Healthcare (STEM-H) disciplines. By focusing on healthcare disciplines, including career research and community health education for youth and their parents, the Pathways Academy is an effective mechanism to provide community engagement and education. The Pathways Academy will provide students (Pathways Scholars) the opportunity to explore healthcare careers, develop critical thinking and problem-solving, collaborate within teams to solve problems, build leadership skills, and enhance resiliency in pursuit of goals.
Enhance educational opportunities for underrepresented and low-income students. Improve critical thinking/problem-solving skills and creativity. Close the education achievement gap for program participants. Increase the number of individuals of underrepresented, low income, and first- generation college students in medicine, the health professions, and the scientific workforce. Provide professional development opportunities for K-12 STEM educators. Intensify exposure to cutting edge, biomedical, public health research, translational research, and cancer research. Provide preparation for successful application to and matriculation in schools emphasizing careers in the health professions. Provide mentorship and coaching to guide students in their career path and life journey.
